The Department

Our Media Department covers a broad range of media. We specialise in Animation, Photography, Video Production and Audio Production. We were one of the first schools in Lincolnshire to offer this exciting and creative subject and it still remains very popular with students today. All of our staff are industry professionals and have worked extensively within the media sector.

We believe that the best way to learn is by producing high quality practical work, that's why we have chosen examination boards that offer flexible units of work that can be tailored to the individual student.
Our students undertake work within the community, producing promotional audio visual material. We offer an animation club for Y7&8 and our photography studio is open most lunchtimes and after school.

We have won a number of local and national competitions including; Disney young film maker, BBC young film maker, Coop film festival and a LAFTA.

The Teaching

Key Stage 4

We offer 2 courses at Key Stage 4 for students wishing to study either Photography or Media.
GCSE Photography has direct links with Art and provides students with the opportunity to study professional artists and photographers. Student's own portfolios of work can be in any genre of photography they choose. Popular genres include; portrait, landscape, macro and light painting. Students will study with the WJEC examination board.

Media studies give students the ability to understand how media producers influence their target audience and how they too can produce a range of work that targets a particular audience. Students use a range of industry standard software to make creative and imaginative media artefacts. Students will study with the OCR examination board.

Key Stage 5

We offer 3 courses at Key Stage 5 for students wishing to study Media in the Sixth Form.

Level 2 Media (graphic Design) is a one year course and consists of 3 units of work. It is biased towards graphic design but students will have the opportunity to develop skills in animation and print production.

Level 3 New Media is a 2 year course and consists of 6 units of work. We look at a range of 'new media' including web design, graphic design, illustration and animation.
Level 3 Media Production is a 2 year course consisting of 6 units of work including; photography, video production, audio and print production.

Students have the opportunity to undertake both New Media and Media Production courses. This will qualify them for a 'Diploma' in Media Studies.

All the above Key Stage 5 courses are currently with the OCR examination board.
