The Department

Learning languages can be challenging but can also be lots of fun. Imagine being able to communicate with people from different countries and different cultures! Teaching staff in the MFL department are passionate about languages and are keen to see pupils develop their language skills. We believe that trips are an important part of language study, and hope that many students will benefit from opportunities here. We have run trips to Biarritz, Sorrento, Cologne (Christmas Markets), the Moselle Valley, Berlin, Madrid and Benalmadena. We also welcome students from a school in Spain each year.

The Teaching

Year 7 study either Spanish or German (alternate years), and continue with their language at least until the end of Year 9. At Key Stage 4, students choosing to continue their language studies will follow the GCSE course.

The Resources

Modern Foreign languages at North Kesteven School are equipped with a suite of rooms containing interactive whiteboards, internet facilities, and other audio-visual equipment. Lessons are frequently supported by the use of ICT, including regular use of the school ICT facilities. A large bank of computer and whiteboard resources has been built up in recent years, and the department has worked collaboratively to produce creative lessons which are tailor-made to suit the needs of each group.
